The Morse Fellowship Program brings Juilliard students-extensively trained as artist-educators-into public school classrooms on a weekly basis throughout the school year. Working as partners with the classroom teacher to mesh their musical explorations with the teacher's curriculum, the Juilliard students develop and present lessons that encourage young children to learn basic elements and understand musical concepts through projects, activities, concerts, and listening to a wide range of classical works.
The Instrumental Music Program offers introductory instruction on a variety of string, wind, and brass instruments to public school fourth- and fifth-graders, in small groups, on a weekly basis throughout the year. The Juilliard students work closely with faculty mentors as part of the outreach training. The children are provided with an instrument and music materials, and they are expected to perform in an ensemble concert at the end of the year.
The Gluck Community Service Fellowship Program is one of the city's most active community arts projects. For more than a decade, the program has enabled talented students from each of Juilliard's disciplines - music, dance, and drama - to present more than 450 concerts annually in New York City health care facilities.
The concerts, free to metropolitan hospitals, nursing homes, and alternative care facilities, encourage students to grow artistically while serving the community with their creative and performing gifts. The students not only perform; they also talk informally about their music, acting, or dancing and share their enthusiasm on a personal level.
The Norma Galblay McCabe Guitar Fellowship enables Juilliard guitar students to introduce classical guitar to young audiences as an artist and educator. Fellows organize performances for New York City schools, present a Young People's Concert at Juilliard, and perform an interactive concert for the children in the CLIMB program.
